This blogy-thingy will be mostly stuff that I think is awesome and occasionally the delusions of grandeur and realities of mediocrity that is my life.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Can’t we get just one WWE pay-per-view or RAW without John Cena? Just one? A couple of years ago, he got storyline “fired”, gave a bogus tearful speech and then remained on RAW and its main events every show until “rehired”. Last week he has elbow surgery and early news was he’d be out for maybe as long as 6 weeks. Joy entered my heart and I foolishly hoped that he’d be out of the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view and off RAW for a few weeks!
And what a fool I was, because there he was on RAW not only demanding another title shot for himself but having a better wrestler (and better sports entertainer) demanding it for him as well. I’d like to think that in reality Mick Foley would want at least a dozen guys to get that title shot besides Cena. But we all know that WWE storylines have very little to do with reality, so of course pandering good guy Mick Foley would want pandering “good guy” John Cena to get yet another title shot.
Was no one else available or more likely was no one else even considered? Why not have Foley come out to make that challenge for himself? I know Foley is no longer the bump machine he once was, but the promos we’d get each week from Punk, Heyman and Foley would have been fantastic. What is the Undertaker doing? He ended a memorable World Title run by Punk 3 years ago in the Cell, have AJ lure him out of exile to try to end Punk’s current title reign. What about Randy Orton or Rey Mysterio? They should still have unresolved issues with Punk right? Hell do another 6 man HIAC match and throw 5 guys in there to try and overthrow the champion! Anything but just tossing Cena in there. Give him the 6 weeks off and the fans time off from him.
Well Night of Champions sure was a WWE pay-per-view…
Actually I enjoyed watching it but I think that was mostly because I watched it with friends at a local sports bar. I don’t think there was anything terrible about the show, what reviewers might call “perfectly acceptable wrestling”. But then again until the main event, other than getting a big kick out of the Kane/Bryan comedy stuff, nothing really rose above average for me.
As for the main event, I thought it was pretty good, probably worth another watch but the finish was kind of blah for me. I’m glad CM Punk won, I think he should have won but just don’t like that particular “Dusty finish”. Ah well…onward to Hell In A Cell…
The look on Punk’s face is pretty close to my reaction every time Cena is on screen these days.

Hoping for a big night tonight on RAW, and for CM Punk to keep the WWE Championship.
